HOW MANY GARMENTS?.. IT DEPENDS ON THE DAY.
At Squeegee & Ink we are a small team of just 2 people. We manually screen print every garment that comes through the studio and we generally take on smaller orders to keep our workflow interesting.
If you have been following us for a while you will understand that we don’t JUST screen print. We create content for social media and other screen printers, we have our own clothing brand, we attend market stalls, we regularly teach screen printing AND we provide pre-exposed screens and acetates for other studios. So how do we find the time to screen print customer jobs? We BATCH UP OUR WORKFLOW.
WHAT DID WE PRINT TODAY?
We split our print jobs/time up into days. For example;
Monday | Admin, emails and finalising orders with customers and ordering stock. |
Tuesday | Complete customer orders such as pre-exposed screens and acetates. |
Wednesday | Complete customer orders such as pre-exposed screens and acetates. |
Thursday | Filming and editing YouTube, Podcast and Skillshare videos. |
Friday | Studio clean up and prepping for next weeks orders. |
Saturday | A girls gotta sleep. |
Sunday | Market stalls and live printing events. |
Now you know how our time is roughly split, you can see that we hand printed all of our customer orders in one day. Here is what we printed on Wednesday;
300 Jumpers | 5 different designs |
100 tote bags | single colour |
2x 25 t-shirts | front and back |
Sticker packs | 2 different designs |
Oh, and we filmed a YouTube video at the same time! This may seem like a very, very small amount of orders in comparison to an automatic screen printing factory, but you have to take every little detail into consideration when planning how many shirts you can print for your customers. For example;
- How many members of staff are in your studio?
- How many colours are in the designs?
- How many units per design?
- Are you printing manually?
- Do you need to flash in between colours?
- Are you printing t-shirts or hoodies/jumpers?
All these things can change the amount of garments that you can print in one day. If we accepted an order which was 1000 units of the same design in single colour. Of course we can print that in just one day… But that would be boring, wouldn’t it!
